Tricks for a Healthier Happy Hour at H·MAC

4 Tips to Stay Healthy and Happy During Happy Hour.

Don’t use the excuse that you’re on a diet to turn down an invite to meet up with your friends or co-workers for happy hour. This is the best way to catch up on what is going on with everyone’s lives. Why not do it at H·MAC? You don’t have to throw your healthy lifestyle out the window just because you are at the bar. Here are some tricks on how to stick to your diet, but still enjoy happy hour.

Use happy hour as an excuse to stay moving. What separates H·MAC from other bars is our GalleryBar! TheKitchen & GalleryBar is a 150-seat restaurant and bar. The GalleryBar is furnished and decorated with regularly rotating art shows of both local and regional artists. Take a walk around and admire the beautiful artwork made by your local Harrisburg artists!

Go with a low-calorie cocktail. Sip on one of our finest glasses of wine for only $5 a glass, or choose a low-calorie mixed drink such as a vodka soda.

Always have a glass of water handy. Pace yourself and stay hydrated. It is hard to not want to keep sipping your drink while you are at the bar.

Enjoy the outdoors. What separates H·MAC from other bars in the area is our outside courtyard. Enjoy the summer weather and drinks with this relaxed atmosphere as opposed to being in a cramped indoor bar elsewhere.

Want to meet up with your closest friends, significant other or family for happy hour? Choose H·MAC for $2 off draft beers Monday through Thursday 5 PM to 8 PM and Friday’s 5 PM to 7 PM.

Join us Fridays for Jazz Happy Hour with pianist, Steve Rudolph.

H·MAC Serves as a Perfect Corporate Event & Wedding Venue

The Capitol Room is perfect for your next corporate event, fundraiser, party, concert or wedding!

The Capitol Room at H·MAC is a beautiful art deco ballroom and is the heart of the H·MAC project. The venue has a current capacity of 1500, making it ideal to host a variety of concerts, parties, theatrical events, fundraisers and weddings. H·MAC’s Capitol Room has vaulted ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and VIP mezzanine.

The Capitol Room is the only venue of its kind in the region. This is the last surviving ballroom from the early 1900s left in Harrisburg. It makes for a super unique wedding venue with its concert grade audio and lighting and a ballroom with a fabulous dance floor making for the ultimate “Red Carpet” wedding!

“Working with a venue like HMAC that serves as a restaurant, bar, concert venue, and (relatively new) wedding venue, means that the experience is completely different than working with a place that churns out reception after reception,” Corinne, former client said.

When hosting an event of any kind at H·MAC, we provide a completely open slate for you or your organization to decorate and design your dream wedding, corporate event, fundraiser and more. H·MAC allows for events to run longer than most other venues. There is a bar in the back of the room and a door that leads out to an inviting balcony where event-goers can relax with a beer or a glass of wine and enjoy the beautiful view of the state Capitol.

Interested in hosting an event, wedding, concert or fundraiser? Stop into H·MAC or contact John Traynor at jt@hbgarts.com for more information!

The House of Music, Arts & Culture Puts Spotlight on Harrisburg on the National Level

H·MAC’s wide range of music is almost unseen and unmatched at any other venue in Central, PA.

Big things are happening at The House of Music, Art & Culture. After being awarded a $1 million grant in December of 2017, John Traynor and his partners are continuing to create jobs that pay, are raising enormous sums of money for charitable projects and putting a spotlight on Harrisburg on a national level.

H·MAC has increased job creation to the city of Harrisburg. It has provided jobs that pay, allowing employees to take home livable wages. Currently, H·MAC has a staff of 30 employees. After renovations are completed, H·MAC expects to employ an additional 50+ employees.

The House of Music, Arts & Culture has put Harrisburg on the map nationally with its wide range of music that is almost unseen and unmatched at any other venue in Central, PA.

H·MAC recently has been working with a new booking agency in New York- Excess dB Entertainment. Heath Miller, President of Excess dB Entertainment, is a huge asset to the venue as he has greatly increased the number and frequency of musicians performing at H·MAC. The quality and quantity of musicians performing at H·MAC are unmatched in Central, PA.

H·MAC has raised over $500,000 for local charities. The venue provides free usable space for 501 (c)(3)’s. This makes H·MAC a real catalyst for charitable fundraising endeavors. The House of Music, Art & Culture always is looking for ways to give back to the community. We have raised money for the Leukemia Society, YWCA, the LGBT Center, Art Association of Harrisburg, Shalom House Children with Aids Foundation and so much more.

The House of Music, Art & Culture’s success has only just begun. With renovations set to be underway through the remainder of 2018 and into spring 2019, H·MAC plans to open a music school, studio, production facility and provide over 30 scholarships to local children.

There is no doubt that The House of Music, Art & Culture will remain in the spotlight for years to come. If you are a 501 (c)(3) organization looking for a venue to host a charitable event, stop into H·MAC for more details! We encourage the community to follow us on social media to stay updated on fundraisers, public events, and specials going on at H·MAC!

H·MAC Showcases Art from Local Harrisburg Artists

Kevyn Knox’s 101 Faces: The Portrait Art of Kevyn Knox being Showcased at H·MAC

The Gallery Bar houses a variety of art to view and purchase, focusing on contemporary urban art, abstract illustration, street art and more. The Gallery Bar is located within the 150-seat restaurant and bar area. This area is completely furnished and decorated with several unique reclaimed materials and offers regularly rotating shows of both local and regional artists.

Currently, H·MAC is showcasing a variety of pieces from local artists, and one of our very own bartenders, Kevyn Knox.

Knox is a self-taught artist from Harrisburg who makes art from the heart. He explores various mediums and styles throughout all of his pieces. His artistic influences range from Modigliani to Paul Klee to Warhol & Basquiat.

Kevyn Knox’s 101 Faces: The Portrait Art of Kevyn Knox, is currently being showcased at H·MAC. This series applies his style of “outsider artist-esque” portraits while utilizing the brightest of colors. His use of colors through his array of portraits makes a statement against racism by using a variety of colors for skin tone. The portraits are based on people who he knows and loves, as well as figures of his imagination.

He is currently in the works of taking found objects and gluing them onto canvases and other objects. This is known as “Trash Art.” He essentially utilizes and repurposes broken toys, bottle caps, nuts & bolts, pieces of glass, and more to be used in his work. Knox is also collecting photos with his variety of different Polaroid cameras. Knox currently has a series in the making called “Women in Suits,” that will be on display in the fall.

Knox is the self-proclaimed Andy Warhol of Harrisburg due to the nature of artwork he presents on Instagram. His Instagram is a direct homage to how Warhol used his Polaroid portraits to explore his world in the 1970’s and 80’s.

Knox is also a blogger, film and tv historian & critic and writer of All Things Kevyn. For those interested in purchasing Knox’s work, his paintings range anywhere from $50 to $1000. Be sure to follow him on Instagram at @kevynknox to view his kitschy road-trip photos and Warholian pop-art portraits.

Come to H·MAC, to have a drink and take a tour of our Gallery Bar to look at our latest featured artists. If you are a local artist interested in having your work displayed, stop into H·MAC to discuss details! Below are some pieces made by other local artists up on display!
